Three armed robbers barged into the house of a contractor here on Wednesday, rendered his wife unconscious and escaped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 35 lakh, police said.

The incident occurred in Nehru Nagar when the woman was alone in the house. Her husband was in Bareilly and the children were at school.

As the maid left home, the robbers knocked the door and forcibly entered the house before the woman could even ask who they were.

They tied her arms, made her unconscious and dumped her in the washroom. They then stripped the house of all valuables over an hour.

Contractor Amit Garg's wife Meenu has been admitted to a hospital, where doctors said she was out of danger.

According to Garg, there were Rs 5 lakh in cash in the house in addition to ancestral and newly bought jewellery weighing at one kilogram.

"The total worth of looted items is about Rs 35 lakh," Amit Garg told IANS.
