Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik Thursday announced a special financial package of Rs.100 crore ($1 billion) for rebuilding tourist infrastructure in the flood ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
"As an exceptional case, the tourism ministry has announced a special package of Rs.100 crore for restoration and reconstruction of the affected government tourist facilities in the state," a tourism ministry statement said.
"The assistance would be over and above the already prioritized projects of approximately Rs.127 crore for developing tourism infrastructure in the state in the current financial year," it added.
The state government has been advised to assess the damaged tourist amenities and revert back to the ministry. The funds will be sanctioned once the demands are examined, the ministry said.
