The Election Commission (EC) on Monday revealed that a whopping Rs.110 crore and 1.83 lakh litres of illegal liqour were seized in Tamil Nadu during the assembly elections which concluded on Monday.
In Kerala, the figure of cash seized by police and other agencies stood at Rs.24 crore while in Puducherry, a union territory, the cash seized amounted to Rs.6.57 crore.
"A total of Rs.110 crore were seized in Tamil Nadu. Out of this, Rs.48 crore were released after due verification. The rest of the amount is being investigated," said Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha.
"A total of 204 kg of silver and 26.35 kg of gold was also seized in Tamil Nadu. In Puducherry, Rs.6.57 crore were seized but out of this. Rs.4.49 crore were released after verification," he added.
In Puducherry, 14,000 litres of liqour and certain household items were also seized, he said.
"In Kerala Rs.24 crore of cash, 50,000 litres liquor and 520 kg of drugs were seized," said Election Commission Director General Sudeep Jain.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala saw a high voter turnouts of above 70 percent on Monday, while Puducherry saw above 80 percent voting, which is similar to the polling trends of last assembly elections in 2011 and the Lok Sabha polls in 2014.
