Burglars looted Rs 40 lakh from a bank office in Kishtwar district of Jammu region during the night of Tuesday, the local police said.
The police said half of the stolen amount was in new and Rs 100 currency notes. The burglars broke into the Agral Sarthal village branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited and looted the cash.
"The burglars entered the J&K Bank branch in Agral Sarthal village in Kishtwar district during the night (of Tuesday) and looted Rs 40 lakh," a senior police officer said in Jammu city on Wednesday.
"The looted amount included Rs 20 lakh in the shape of the demonetised notes and the rest in Rs 100 and the newly issued currency notes," he said.
"A case has been registered into the theft and investigations have been started to nab the thieves," he added.
