An unidentified man stole a Haryana-based jeweller's bag containing jewellery worth Rs.55 lakh from a baggage-scanning machine at a metro station here, police said Wednesday.

The man walked off with Ravinder Soni's bag while he was being frisked at Chandni Chowk metro station. Soni, 35, had placed the bag in the scanning machine.

"Soni said he had bought the jewellery from Delhi's Katra Nawab area Tuesday," said Sanjay Bhatia, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

Bhatia said CCTV cameras at the station showed a youth walking off with the bag.
