Seven unidentified assailants, riding three bikes, robbed Rs.83 lakh from three employees of a rice merchant here at gun point.

The robbery occurred outside the businessman's house in Pitampura of West Delhi on New Year's eve around 8 p.m.

Atma Ram, Sonu and driver Amar Singh, the employees of trader Vijay Goel, got down from a car in front of the house and were taking out the bag from the vehicle's dicky when the robbers struck and held them hostage at gun point.

"The robbers then snatched the bag, containing Rs.83 lakh, from the staff and escaped from the scene," said a police officer, on the basis of Goel's statement.

"The employees were to deliver the money, the day's collection, to their employer," he said.

Preliminary probe into the case has revealed the involvement of someone who knew about the presence of huge cash in the car and probably informed the robbers.

"Police teams have been formed to investigate the case and nab the robbers. Police have taken footage from a CCTV camera installed at a house located close to that of the trader," said the officer.
