The teachings of late RSS ideologue M.S. Golwalkar, Deendayal Upadhyay and V.D. Savarkar will form part of the curriculum of the Central University of Haryana and will inculcate "nationalism" among students, the varsity said on Thursday.

The centrally-funded university said it has also decided to include teachings of Swami Vivekanand, Rabindranath Tagore, Dayanand Saraswati, Ram Manohar Lohia, J.P. Narayan and Acharya Narendra Dev in the syllabus of the post-graduate course of political science.

The decision has been taken "to inculcate the best virtues of high morality, ethical standards and nationalism among its students", the university said in a statement.

It noted that the "visionaries have made unparallel and significant contribution in nation building and in propounding the idea of nationalism".

Hailing the decision, Vice Chancellor R.C. Kuhad said: "This change in syllabus is a new beginning that will help the students of political science in understanding the subject matter through the perspective or lenses of these imminent political thinkers."

The university also said the lessons of these nationalists would be imparted to second year students of MA political science in their third and the last semesters.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is the ideological parent of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling party both in the state and at the Centre.
