Over 5,000 Russian soldiers and military cadets on Monday marched across Moscow's Red Square to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the historical 1941 parade.
In the 1941 parade soldiers marched through Red Square to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution and then continued directly to fight the German Army just outside of Moscow, Efe news reported.
Dressed in period uniforms and weaponry, the participants included some 55 veterans of the original event.
The event is considered by many historians to have been crucial for Moscow's defence as it raised the Red Army's morale.
"Today we express our infinite respect and deep gratitude to the participants of that historical parade and to all those who fought on the frontline" said Moscow's Mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, as he greeted the surviving World War II veterans.
After the commemorative parade, the Red Square was re-opened and became an open air museum, where Muscovites and tourists admired some of the vintage material then the Soviet Red Army used during the World War II.
