Russian wins tennis title in Georgia

Alexanra Panova from Russia Sunday defeated her compatriot Victoria Kan in straight sets to take the Telavi Open tennis women's singles title.

The WTA 177th-ranked Russian, ranked second in Telavi, won the championship match 7-5, 6-1, Xinhua reported.

Alexandra Panova advanced into the final by beating Ukraine's Ganna Poznikhirenko 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 in the semi-finals.

Victoria Kan in the semis downed Andreea Mitu from Romania, top-ranked in Telavi, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

In the women's doubles, Maria-Elena Camerin of Italy and Anja Prislan from Slovenia defeated Anna Zaja of Germany and Masa Zec-Peskiric of Slovenia 7-5, 6-2 to win the final on Sunday.
