A Russian woman tourist staying in a hotel here escaped a rape bid by an employee, who earlier shot a video clip of her while she was sleeping, police said Friday. The accused has been arrested.
The incident occurred at a hotel near Kaushambi metro station under Indirapuram police station early Friday night.
Police said the 23-year-old Russian came to India from Germany and booked two rooms - one for her and another for her guide. Around 2 a.m. Friday, a hotel staffer, identified as Sunil Kumar Yadav, entered her room and started shooting a video film of her.
Woken up by the flash light, the woman objected but Yadav attacked her and allegedly attempted to rape her. She shouted for help and hearing her screams, her guide Pradeep Kumar, who was sleeping in the adjoining room, got up and came to rescue her. The noise also woke up other staffers and the police were called.
A case was filed against Yadav on the guide's complaint and he was arrested. The mobile phone was also seized, a senior police officer said.
The hotel owner Satya Pal Singh termed the incident unfortunate and said he had sacked the waiter.
