A group of Rwandan soldiers are set to depart from Kigali Thursday for a peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR), an official statement said.

According to the Rwanda Defence Forces statement, Rwanda will deploy a combat-ready Mechanized Infantry battalion of 850 personnel under the command of Lt Col Jean Paul Karangwa to CAR, Xinhua reported.

The troops will serve under the African-led International Support Mission to the Central African Republic (MISCA) alongside the French forces mandated by the UN Security Council Resolution of Dec 5, 2013.

Rwanda has also previously sent peacekeepers to Darfur, South Sudan, and Mali.
