Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar Sunday morning began a visit to the village in Andhra Pradesh which he has decided to adopt.

Soon after arrival in Puttamrajuvari Kandriga, the parliamentarian unveiled a pylon to adopt the village and launch various development works.

Tendulkar was accorded a warm welcome by Nellore District Collector N. Srikanth, other officials and villagers as his chopper landed from Krishnapatnam Port, where he had a night halt.

He will lay the foundation stone for housing, construction of road and some other development works being undertaken with the Rs.2.79 crore he has been provided under his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds.

This is Tendulkar's first visit to the village after his announcement to adopt it under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna.

A festive atmosphere prevailed in the village as villagers, especially youngsters, were excited to see and meet the cricket icon.

He will interact with farmers, children and youth in the village during his three-hour long visit.

Police made elaborate security arrangements. Authorities barred people from other villages from entering Puttamrajuvari Kandriga.
