The Samajwadi Party's women's wing chief Shweta Singh resigned from the party on Tuesday.

In a letter to party President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, she said she was resigning as she was hurt by the behaviour of certain party leaders.

Shweta Singh is considered close to former Samajwadi Party state unit President and Akhilesh's paternal uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav.

She was initially fielded by the SP from Lucknow (East) but was denied the ticket by Akhilesh in the middle of her campaign. Akhilesh's close aide Anurag Bhadauria finally got the party ticket for the seat.

Shweta Singh's mother is a veteran Samajwadi Party leader and a three-time corporator in Lucknow.
