A three-day national convention of the Samajwadi Party (SP) will begin in the Janeshwar Mishra Park here Wednesday, a party leader said Tuesday.
The mega event which will witness participation of more than 10,000 party workers from across the country will be addressed by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, his son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and other national leaders, party spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary said.
The city has been painted into red and green - colours of the ruling party - and hoardings, buntings, banners, posters have been plastered all over. Buoyed by its recent success in the state assembly bypolls, the party is sparing no effort to make the convention a mega show of strength.
A 40,000 Watts sound system, gigantic LED screens, an array of mouth-watering dishes for delegates from various parts of the country, and air-conditioned accomodation are some of the high points of the event.
The convention would be the 9th in the history of the Samajwadi Party and among other things will take up political resolutions with a national perspective, with a special mention of the political environment in the country after the ascendancy of Bharatiya Janata Party's Narendra Modi to the post of prime minister. The party will also strategize for the 2017 state assembly polls, the spokesman told IANS.
Samajwadi Party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav, who visited the venue of the convention Tuesday evening, expressed satisfaction over the preparations and said during the the three-day event, the party will elect its national president and members of the national executive as per the constitution.

The political resolution and an economic resolution will be debated Thursday after which the next day would have an open house to be followed by a cultural extravaganza, he said.
The Modi-led NDA government is likely to occupy most political space during the discussions at the convention, said a senior SP leader. A pitch will also be made to call all secular forces to come together to defeat the communal BJP, he added.
The UP chief minister along with Mulayam Singh will unveil a 25-foot statue of socialist idealogue Janeshwar Mishra on the first day of the convention.
