Designer Samant Chauhan, who is known to create exceptional silhouettes with handwoven textile, opened his first store in Mumbai and says that his next plan includes expansion in the city with participation in fashion weeks and exhibitions.
"I look at concentrating on expanding and exploring opportunities in Mumbai in the near future through participating in Mumbai exhibition and fashion shows," Chauhan told IANS when asked about his expansion plans in the city.
Located opposite the Taj Mahal Hotel, the new store in Colaba reflects the architectural style and aesthetic sense that encapsulates the neighbourhood. Furthermore, the quaint 700 square feet store serves as an extension to his Delhi store, with a varied range to appeal to the Mumbai traveller and clientele.
"When I decided to open a store in Mumbai, I knew this is the area I would look at opening. Though the market research points out that Kala Ghoda is the better option but I choose Colaba as I also wanted to target tourists and not the typical buyers. Colaba provided all of it.
"My pieces are not loud and the colour palette that I use is also subtle which aligns with taste of the tourists as well as the buyers of the city. Mumbai clients know what they are looking for in terms of silhouettes and structure which makes it better for a designer to understand their choice," said the designer.

The designer unveiled his latest collection - "Do Not Allow Me To Forget You" (BOMBAY) which is inspired by his memories of the city. The palette includes unexplored hues that the label has not played around with, so far. Silhouettes like open jackets and pants, gowns, organza silk kaftans, period dresses are few highlights.
The semi-couture range is lightweight and apt for upcoming occasions.
