Relics of Sarada Devi, the spiritual consort of the 19th century mystic Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, have been stolen from the Belur Math, the global headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in West Bengal's Howrah district, an official of the order said.

"On Tuesday, around 4.45 p.m. we noticed that some relics of Sree Sree Ma are missing from the glass showcase where they were kept. We immediately informed police, who have taken prompt steps," a spokesman of the order told media persons at Belur Thursday.

The stolen relics, including her teeth and strands of hair, a rosary used by her as also some ornaments, were housed in a museum in the headquarter premises.

A complaint has been lodged at the Bally police station.

"We have received a complaint. We are probing the matter," said Howrah Police Commissioner Ajay Ranade.
