The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a plea for bail by former union minister Matang Sinh - one of the accused in Saradha chit fund scam - so that he could go for treatment of his liver that was transplanted in 2004 and has now developed complications.
The vacation bench of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Amitava Roy refused to interfere with the matter already pending before the Calcutta High Court, and told senior counsel Amit Sibal, appearing for Matang Sinh, that he could move the high court, which has started functioning from Monday after the summer break.
"We are not making any comment as matter is pending before the high court. When the high court is open today, pursue your remedies there," it said, dismissing the plea as withdrawn.
Sibal told the bench that his client had undergone liver transplant in 2004 and the same had the life expectation of of ten years and afterwards, it develops compications.
Pointing out that the condition of Matang Sinh was already critical and has further got complicated, Sibal said that Sinh required specialised treatment for his liver ailment.
Telling the court that Matang Sinh was in medical emergency, the court was told that he was arrested on January 31, 2015 and has already spent 480 days behind the bars.
Arresting the former minister, the Central Bureau of Investigation had charged him with criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds.
