The Supreme Court Wednesday declined to interfere with Delhi High Court order directing Haryana to release water to Munka Canal for its supply to Dwarka area of the national capital.

A bench headed by Chief Justice H. L.Dattu, while issuing notice to Delhi government, declined to put on hold the Delhi High Court order directing Haryana to release water for supply to Dwarka.

Haryana in a mentioning before Chief Justice Dattu's court had contended that there was no provision under the agreement under which the state had to release water for Dwarka.

The high court Nov 27 had directed the Haryana government to release 719 cubic feet per second of water to the Munak canal to end the water shortage problem of Dwarka area.

It had asked the neighbouring state to release water to the Munak CLC - which is cement-lined - instead of the unlined (kachcha) canal, because of which water is being lost every day.

The high court had passed the order on a PIL, filed by housing societies in Dwarka, seeking the commissioning of the new Munak canal.
