Terming West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress' protests in court against the arrest of minister Madan Mitra contempt of court, former chief justice of India Altamas Kabir Saturday called for bringing the matter to the apex court's immediate attention.

"Demonstrations that take place when the case is being heard are contempt of the court in which the hearing is taking place. This should be brought to the notice of the Supreme Court," Kabir told media persons on the sidelines of an event here.

"This is the right time... if not now, then when will you do it," said Kabir adding that the Central Bureau of Investigation which is probing the scam or any member of the society can draw the attention of the apex court.

Trinamool supporters and activists have been shouting slogans and protesting during Mitra's appearance before the court. The West Bengal transport and sports minister has been nabbed by the CBI for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam.
