The Supreme Court Monday struck down the provision that prohibited women make-up artists and hairdressers from becoming the members of professional associations, which curbed their careers in the film industry.
The apex court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra also struck down the provision of the make-up artists and hairdressers association that mandated a person to be a resident of a particular place for five years to entitle him/her to become member of the association.
The court order came on a petition by woman make-up artist Charu Khurana who had challenged these two clauses of the association as being discriminatory to women.
