The Supreme Court will hear on Tuesday a plea by the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments seeking to block the release of controversial film "Padmaavat".

The counsel for the two states on Monday mentioned the matter for urgent hearing seeking modification/clarification of the court's January 18 order that stayed notification/orders of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana government banning the release of the film in the three states.

The court, by the said order, had directed that no state government would issue order that might come in the way of the release of Sanajy Leela Bhansali-directed "Padmaavat" on January 25. Along with Bansali, the film is co-produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

Senior counsel Harish Salve, who had appeared for the film producers, too was present in the court when matter was mentioned on behalf of the two state governments.

In the meantime, the Karni Sena too has moved the top court seeking a relook at January 18 order by which the top court had paved the way for the film's countrywide release.
