BJP president Rajnath Singh Sunday asked the Indian government to scale down diplomatic relations with Pakistan in the wake of the killing of Indian soldiers in Kashmir.
"The time has come to give a befitting reply to Pakistan. The Indian high commissioner to Pakistan should be called back immediately and India-Pakistan diplomatic relations should be scaled down," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader told a public rally at Ramlila Maidan here.
He appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to cancel his meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September.
"The prime minister has decided to meet Nawaz Sharif in the US for talks despite the killing of our five soldiers. I appeal to the prime minister to immediately call off his meeting with Nawaz Sharif," he said.
On Aug 6, Pakistani troops sneaked into Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir and killed the five soldiers.
