School students in the age group of 10 to 13 years from all over India will be designing mobile applications for a social cause.

Global Discovery Academy (GDA), a chain of K12 schools across India is organising the first all-India android mobile app design competition.

K12 is a designation for the sum of primary and secondary education.

"Participants will be competing in creating problem-solving applications in a given area of social concern like environment, education, health, nutrition, poverty and civic facility," said GDA chief product officer Vipul Reddy Thursday.

GDA will provide the requisite training on mobile phone programming where the students would be required to form a team of two or three members.

"Each participant will give a broad outline of the social cause it is being designed for. It shall address the apps functionality, its end-user engagement and design. Finalists will present the app idea and prototype in the finals in New Delhi," added Reddy.

Registration for the competition is free of cost and open till September 1.
