A Class 5 girl has moved the Delhi High Court against her teacher for slapping and humiliating her in front of her entire class after she came to school with two pony tails, a lawyer said Saturday.
Pooja, an economically weaker section (EWS) student, was beaten up Nov 21 by her teacher Dolly of Mayo International School in Patparganj in east Delhi for a frivolous reason, said a petition filed by advocate Ashok Agarwal.
The petition said the teacher also humiliated her in front of the entire class for the "amusingly absurd reason" that she came to school with two pony tails.
When her mother raised objections, the girl was suspended from school sine die, the advocate said.
Despite persistent requests and persuasion, the school has refused to revoke the suspension, he said.
"The action of suspending the petitioner-student on the part of the school is absolutely illegal, grossly illogical and violation of the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE), 2009," the advocate said in the petition and sought action against the school.
The petition - which said the act was discriminatory against the EWS student - is likely to come up for hearing Monday in the high court.
