Militants blew up a portion of a railway track in Pakistan's Balochistan province with an improvised explosive device (IED) Saturday, military sources said.

The IED was planted close to the track and its detonation damaged a two-foot portion in Bakhtiarabad area of the province, Dawn reported.

Train services between Balochistan and other parts of the country were suspended after the blast and passenger trains were stopped at different locations owing to security reasons.

Technical railway staff were also called to ensure immediate repair of the damaged portion of the track.

Last year in April, 17 people, including two women and four children, died in a fire after a bomb exploded in a carriage of a Rawalpindi-bound train at a station in Sibi district of Balochistan province.
