Indian swimmers Sandeep Sejwal and Sajan Prakash failed to qualify for the semifinals of their respective categories at the World Championships here on Tuesday.
Olympian Sejwal disappointed in the men's 50 metres breaststroke, and Sajan had a similar result in men's 200m butterfly at the Kazan Arena.
Sejwal, part of Heat 6 out of 9, finished 40th out of 81 as two participants were disqualified and three failed to start. The 26-year-old clocked 28.57 seconds to complete the 50 metres -- 1.95 seconds behind top qualifier Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa.
Later, part of Heat 1 out of 4, Sajan finished an overall 31st out of 40 participants in 200m butterfly in two minutes and 1.63 seconds. Top qualifier Laszio Cseh of Hungary finished in 1:53.71.
Though the Kerala swimmer posted a quick 26.88 seconds in the first 50m, he ran out of energy and completed the next three 50m in 30.83, 31.71 and 32.71.
Only the top-16 qualified for the semis in both categories.
