Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Thursday removed a high-ranking police official for insulting a traffic policeman.

In a Facebook post, Hun Sen said he decided to remove Mam Sri Vanna from his position as Deputy Director General of the General Department of Immigration, but allow him to retain his Lieutenant General rank, Xinhua news agency reported.

The removal was made after Vanna violated a traffic light while driving in capital Phnom Penh on Monday and opposed being fined by a traffic policeman, according to a video clip posted on social media.

Moreover, he used an insulting term against the policeman.

The senior police officer called the traffic cop "Ar traffic police" -- Ar is a derogatory term used for children or younger people.

"The term 'Ar traffic police' not only insults the subordinates, but also looks down on the whole unit of the traffic police," the prime minister said.
