A senior Income Tax official and his junior were arrested by the CBI in a bribery case and have been sent by a court to the agency's custody for three days, an official said on Thursday.
Shailendra Mammadi, the principal commissioner here, along with his junior officer Sarath who hails from the capital city, were under the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) scanner and picked up on Wednesday on information that the officer had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs.1 million from a Kottayam-based jeweller.
The CBI had conducted multiple raids in Kottayam and here at the residences of these officials and the duo was questioned for several hours before being arrested. They were subsequently produced before the CBI court, which sent them to three days custody.
