A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), was down by 285.53 points or 1.02 percent during the afternoon session on Wednesday.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also down by 96.05 points or 1.14 percent at 8,366.30 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,880.76 points, was trading at 27,580.56 points (at 2.17 p.m.) in the afternoon session, down 285.53 points or 1.02 percent from the previous day's close at 27,866.09 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 27,883.33 points and a low of 27,563.05 points in the trade so far.
