A benchmark index of Indian equity markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), on Friday provisionally closed 247 points or 0.87 percent down.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell by 63.20 points or 0.74 percent at 8,526.60 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 28,390.50 points, closed at 28,123.93 points (3.30 p.m.), down 246.91 points or 0.87 percent from the previous day's close at 28,370.84 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 28,402.64 points and a low of 28,083.76 points in the intra-day trade.
