The Indian stock markets' benchmark index Sensex hit a record high 25,711.11 points in the morning trade Tuesday. However, the index pared its gains and slipped into the red and was trading 77 points down in the afternoon session.
The 30-scrip S&P Sensex (sensitive index) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened sharply higher at 25,706.35 points and touched a record high of 25,711.11 points in the early trade.
The benchmark index hit the previous record high of 25,644.77 points Monday.
The index was ruling at 25,502.61 points at 1.18 p.m., up 0.30 percent or 77.60 points from its previous day's close at 25,580.21 points. The index slipped to a low of 25,347.33 points in the intra-day.
The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also rose to a record high of 7,683.20 points soon after the opening trade.
The Nifty was trading 0.41 percent down at 7,623.20 points in the afternoon trade.
