Sensex surges 142 points; healthcare stocks gain

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Friday was trading 142.40 points or 0.49 percent up as healthcare stocks surged.

Good buying was observed in healthcare, banking, consumer durables and capital goods sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 28,888.99 points, was trading at 28,947.50 points (at 09.59 a.m.) in the early session, up 142.40 points or 0.49 percent from the previous day's close at 28,805.10 points.

The Sensex has touched a high of 28,955.03 points and a low of 28,835.70 points in the trade so far.

The S&P healthcare index gained by 256.12 points, bankex went up by 138.33 points, consumer durables index moved up by 120.82 points and capital goods index got augmented by 102.76 points.

 

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also was trading 47.85 points or 0.55 percent up at 8759.40 points.
