A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), on Wednesday surged 240.98 points or 0.87 percent during the morning session.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 66.95 points or 0.80 percent up at 8,432.60 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,749.30 points, was trading at 27,886.51 points (at 9.35 a.m.) in the early session, up 240.98 points or 0.87 percent from the previous day's close at 27,645.53 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 27,894.27 points and a low of 27,743.99 points in the trade so far.
The rally was led by banking, realty, power and information technology (IT) sectors.
