A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 1.66 percent or 313.13 points up in late afternoon trade Friday.
Good buying was seen in sectors like consumer durables, auto, metal, oil and gas, capital goods and banking index (bankex). None of the sectors were trading in red.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,959.83 points, was trading at 19,140.29 points in the afternoon session, up 313.13 points or 1.66 percent from its previous day's close at 18,827.16 points.
Sensex touched a high of 19,149.96 points and a low of 18,952.09 points in pre-noon trade.
The S&P BSE consumer durables index surged 240.09 points, auto shot up by 311.43 points, metal increased by 195.20 points, oil and gas moved up by 188.10 points, capital goods increased by 186.79 points and bankex inched up by 251.52 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading up by 0.87 percent or 49.85 points down at 5748.95 points.
