A shutdown called by separatists on Monday affected life in Srinagar and some other places in the Kashmir Valley.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, called the shutdown to highlight alleged human rights violations by the security forces.

Shops, public transport and other business establishments remained closed in old city and uptown areas in the city.

Private transport and three wheelers were, however, seen plying on the roads.

Authorities have deployed police and Central Reserve Police Force troopers in Srinagar's old city area and other law and order sensitive places of the valley.

No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far.
