An Indian Fijian baby girl died in a Christchurch hospital in New Zealand after suffering a serious head injury, a media report said Thursday.
A homicide investigation has been launched to probe the incident, Stuff.co.nz reported.
The girl, aged one, died shortly before 8.30 pm Wednesday with her parents at her bedside.
The girl was admitted to Christchurch Hospital Tuesday night by her babysitter with assistance from her neighbour.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson said they were now treating the death as a homicide. A post-mortem examination will be carried out Thursday.
Anderson said police were not in a position to make any further comment and would not speculate on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the neighbours expressed shock over the incident. They said the couple moved in less than two months ago.
