Afghan police freed seven workers abducted by Taliban militants following raids in Herat province, an official said Monday.

"Taliban militants attacked a base of a road construction company in Gazara district Sunday night, and they abducted nine workers and took them to their hideout after setting fire to the machinery," the official told Xinhua.

All those abducted were Afghans, the official said, adding that there was no casualty on the police side.

Operations to rescue the remaining two abducted people were under way, he added.
