At least seven members of al-Qaida's Yemen branch were killed when a US drone bombed their convoy in Shabwa province Wednesday, a military official said.
The seven terrorists were killed in Margah area, some 75 km northwest of Ataq, the provincial capital of Shabwa, reported Xinhua citing a local military official.
The attack and the casualties have been confirmed by two other intelligence officers in the province.
The Yemeni government Sunday boosted security presence around Western embassies in the capital as precautionary measures after the US and some European countries closed their embassies in Yemen capital Sanaa over alert of possible attacks by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.
Washington has carried out more than five drone strikes in Yemeni southern regions since Saturday, prior to the decision of temporarily closing its mission in Sanaa.
