Sevilla will not sell their French striker Kevin Gameiro for less than 40 million euros ($44 million), the football club confirmed on Wednesday.

"It's true that clubs are bidding for Gameiro, but we will not sell for less than 40 million euros. We want Kevin to be the center of (coach) Jorge Sampaoli's project," Sevilla vice president Jose Maria del Nido told Radio Sevilla, according to Efe.

These comments come after daily Marca reported that Barcelona, who want to sign Gameiro, do not intend to pay more than 25 million euros ($27.5 million) for his services.

Sevilla are holding onto the 29-year-old and will not give him up unless the release clause in his contract -- 40 million euros ($44 million) -- is paid.

Marca pointed out that in light of Gameiro's possible move and predictions about Italian striker Ciro Immobile moving to Lazio, Sevilla, who have already signed six new footballers, may look to sign a new striker.
