Thirty-four people, including 20 students - mostly young boys and girls - were arrested as police busted a major sex racket in Tripura, police said here on Monday.

"Acting on a tip off, police raided three restaurants in Agartala city on Sunday night and arrested 34 people, mostly young girls and boys," a police official said.

The arrested people include, one girl student each of National Institute of Technology, Agartala, Agartala Government Medical College and a nursing institute and two 17-years-old girls.

Police also arrested owners of three restaurants. All the detainees presented in a local court on late Sunday night. It sent 32 people in judicial custody and two to juvenile home as their age was under 18 years under the provisions of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

West Tripura district police chief Bijoy Nag and his deputy Sharmista Chakraborty led the raids. "Police would soon take action against some other illicit activities in the capital city and its outskirts," Nag said.
