Sierra Leone Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana has sought political asylum at the US embassy here, a source said on Saturday.

The staff of the American embassy have convened a meeting to decide whether to accord him the asylum, the source added

The vice president has gone into hiding after a raid on his residence on Saturday by security personnel who disarmed his personal bodyguards and deployed military personnel around the property, Xinhua reported citing a source.

The vice president, who was in a self-imposed quarantine for Ebola, was expelled from the governing All Peoples Congress party on Friday for what the party described as falsifying his documents and for anti-party activities.
