Olympic silver medalist P.V. Sindhu on Monday received a Rs 5 crore cheque from Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The Chief Minister also presented a cheque of Rs 1 crore to her coach Pullela Gopichand.
The star shuttler and her coach called on the Chief Minister on their return from Rio Olympics. Accompanied by her parents, Sindhu showed her silver medal to Rao, who was all praise for her historic achievement.
The Chief Minister said the government will come out with a new sports policy to produce world class players like Sindhu in various disciplines.
Rao also announced Rs 25 lakh cash award for Sindhu's physiotherapist C. Kiran. He also announced Rs 25 lakh for shuttler K. Srikant for his impressive performance in Rio Olympics.
The Chief Minister said it was a matter of pride that six in top 50 badminton players in the world were products of Gopichand Academy. He said if necessary the government would extend financial assistance to the academy.

Rao suggested the academy should also have its activities in districts to train budding players.
