Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday visited the parking lot of the Yelahanka air base in Bengaluru where over 300 cars were gutted in a massive fire on Saturday during the Aero India air show, an official statement said.
"The Minister was briefed about the incident by officials (from Indian Air Force, fire services and police) and was given an account of first hand witnesses," a Ministry of Defence statement said.
No casualties were reported in the incident which happened around noon in the parking area of the air show.
"During the briefing to Defence Minister, the probable cause was stated as fire starting from an overheated silencer of one of the cars parked in the parking area. This quickly led to spreading of fire accentuated by strong winds," a Defence Ministry spokesperson tweeted.
