Six people, including two children, died Tuesday when the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck in Odisha's Rayaganda district, police said.

A senior police officer said the speeding truck hit the autorickshaw carrying 11 people of Gadisahkhal village. They were on their way to Kotapeta village to attend a marriage ceremony.

Five people died on the spot, while the sixth succumbed in hospital. The injured were rushed to hospital where four of them were stated to be critical.

Following the incident, irate villagers blocked the road demanding compensation to the families of the deceased. They burnt tyres to lodge their protest.
