The government's "Grant-in-Aid to Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs)" increased by six times to Rs.16.41 crore during 2014-15, the ministry of tribal affairs said on Monday.
"The grant was increased to Rs.1,641 lakh (Rs.16.41 crore) in 2014-2015 from Rs.274.41 lakh (Rs.2.74 crore) in 2013-14 . During the first four months of the current financial year an amount of Rs.464.37 lakh was released," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry is implementing the scheme of "Grant-in Aid to Tribal Research Institutes" to extend financial assistance for strengthening them in the areas of research and documentation of tangible and intangible heritage and training and capacity building.
The TRIs functions include working as a body of knowledge and research, supporting evidence-based policy, planning and legislation, capacity building, dissemination of information and generating public awareness.
