At least six militants were killed in a fire-fight that erupted after Taliban rebels attacked security checkpoints in Afghanistan's Kunar province on Sunday, the police said.
"Militants attacked the security posts in Marawara district on Sunday. The security forces fought back, killing six militants and injuring 15 others," Xinhua quoted provincial police chief General Abdul Habib Sayyedkhil as saying.
Sporadic clashes continued for hours in the district, which borders Pakistan, the police chief said adding that one security personnel was slightly injured during the clashes.
The mountainous province, with Asadabad as its capital, has been the scene of clashes over the past couple of months.
The Taliban militant group had yet not made any comment.
