The pilot of a small plane died when the aircraft crashed in the US state of Texas Thursday, a media report said.

The crash occurred as the pilot attempted to land at a local airport in Amarillo, about 850 km north of Texas's largest city of Houston, Xinhua reported citing ABC13 TV channel.

The plane crashed into a yard by a mobile home. The pilot died at the scene and there was no report of injuries on the ground. The identity of the victim has not been released.
