Two timber smugglers, who were using a toy AK-47 rifle to masquerade as militants, were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir, police said Tuesday.

The timber smugglers who posed as militants during the night were arrested in Awantipora in Pulwama district, a police officer said.

They were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Lone and Bilal Ahmad Magray, both from Tral town.

The two were spotted by a team of the 42 Rashtriya Rifles Monday night in Nai Basti area in Tral along with the AK-47 rifle.

"On being challenged, the duo fled the spot and threw away their weapon. They were chased and later held. The weapon they threw away was found to be a toy AK-47 rifle," the police officer said.
