The weather office here Tuesday forecast moderate to heavy snowfall at many places in Jammu and Kashmir between Jan 8 and 10.
"A fresh western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas is likely to affect the state from Jan 8 to 10, 2014 with its main activity Jan 9," Met department director Sonam Lotus said in an advisory.
"Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to heavy snow will occur at many places in Jammu and Kashmir divisions and a few places in Ladakh region, particularly in Zojila, Drass and Kargil hilly areas," the official said.
Surface and air transport may be affected. Day temperatures may fall by five to six degrees Celsius and night temperatures may rise by two to three degrees Celsius, the advisory said.
The western disturbance is an extra tropical storm that originates in the Mediterranean Sea under whose influence rain or snow occurs in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
