Defending Olympic champion Zhou Yang of China retained her women's 1000m short track title at the Sochi Winter Games here Saturday.
Zhou trailed South Korean Shim Suk Hee after the first four laps but outsprinted her in the final lap. Her winning mark was two minutes 19.140 seconds, while Shim, runner-up of the event at the 2013 World Championships, took the silver in 2:19.239, reports Xinhua.
Italian veteran Arianna Fontana came in third in 2:19.416.
China's Li Jianrou, winner of the 500m at Sochi, fell in the final and missed the podium.
